可能暫時未有正式及具體的編譯教學
大部分在網路上可下載 Chrome OS 暫時都是由專業 Linux 使用者
經由 VMWare 所編譯的虛擬硬碟檔 (*.vmdk)
幸好 VMWare 的 VMWare Player 可免費下載安裝使用 (Macintosh 則使用 VMWare Fusion)
而 VMWare Player 3 還可以建立虛擬硬碟檔，能運行 VMWare Station 之類需要收費的工具的部分簡單功能
從網路上下載虛擬硬碟檔的 Chrome OS 運行並不是十分困難
以下是 VMWare Player 3 在 Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP3 的安裝程序
安裝 VMWare Player 3 後選擇 Home
再選擇 Create a New Virtual Machine
選擇 I will install the operating system later.
然後按 Next
Guest Operating System 選擇 Other
Version 亦選擇 Other
然後按 Next
輸入 Virtual machine name 時要注意不要如圖中輸入 GoogleChromeOS
要輸入下載回來的 vmdk 的檔案名稱
大部分從網路下載的 Google Chrome OS 通常是 chrome-os-xxxxxx
選擇建立位置
然後按 Next
建立的 vmdk 時可使用預設值，不用特別更改
然後按 Next
按下 Customize Hardware...
選擇 Network Adapter
Network Connection 選擇 Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network
然後按 OK 圖到之前的版面按 Finish 便完成 虛擬硬碟 的設定
將下載的 vmdk 檔取代 VMWare Player 3 所建立的 vmdk 檔
取代 vmdk 檔後回到 VMWare Player 3 的版面
選擇剛才建立的 GoogleChromeOS 的版面按 Play virtual machine 起動 Google Chrome OS
進入登入版面
只要用戶擁有 GMail 帳戶，輸入 GMail 帳戶及密碼後按 Enter 便可以登入
但需要注意 VMWare Player 3 能夠連線到網路
登入後，基本上是一個 Google Chrome Web Browser 的版面
按下左上角的 Google Chrome 圖示會顯示一堆應用程式列表
但其實除了 Calculator 是內建程式外
其他都只是 Google Web Application 如 GMail, Google Calendar, Google Docs
或連結到其他網頁的超連結
但這些配置可能只是 Google Chrome OS 的建立者的基本配置選單罷了
GMail, Google Docs 在 Google Chrome OS 的界面基本上
與在與其他作業系統使用 Google Chrome Web Browser 相同
這 Google Chrome OS 已經預載 Flash Player 10
可能是建立者附加的，無從考究
另存圖片到系統，但在下則不清楚如何開啟 File Manager 來瀏覽檔案
因此在下在 GMail 的 Attachment 的 Browse 中尋找剛才下載的圖片
另外不同的 GMail 帳戶登入 Google Chrome OS 後
都會建立一個屬於用戶的 home directory 於 File System 中
用後感
在下下載的 Google Chrome OS 並沒有特別，也許是在下仍未熟悉 Google Chrome OS
另外在 VMWare Player 3 運行 Google Chrome OS 好像比較緩慢 (所謂的 lag)
還有在下暫時亦未懂得如何設定解像度、時間等系統設定
